I'm hoping others attending social media week will find this. It is truly time to put down the crack pipe. And the term expert is quite relative...

Just because someone has been using facebook or twitter actively for 6 months doesn't make them an "expert." It does make them tuned in, but this kind of work will be most successful for non-profits if it is based on trust, longevity, and persistence.

While social media is creating temporary jobs for social media "experts" , the real impact will be felt by the permanent positions (like Community Response teams) institutions will invest in.

Steve Wax setup Campfire with the Blair Witch Project guys (the first successful "social media campaign" of Gen-X/Y), so I appreciated Steve Wax's comment yesterday at Campfire's social media meetup: "We've been doing this stuff for many years. We've still got no answers. Only questions."

Be wary of answers.

Spot on, Amanda. Especially this line:
"Technology and systems aren’t everything—social media is there to remind us that online media, in the end, is a people-centered enterprise"

See you tomorrow at the 1stfans meetup? And for Wikipedia Loves Art?

Excellent points and well explained. Most of the agency and marketing world will still keep doing what they do. Experts, gurus and specialists will make hay for another decade before the average joe/jo is able to assimilate the social tools into their day to day job.

I like the idea of being a student again anyway :)
